Genetic Analysis of Agronomic and Quality Traits from Multi-Location white Yam Trials using Mixed Model with Genomic Relationship Matrix

Traits that define the suitability of a crop for production and consumption are often assessed predicted to identify superior genotypes commercial deployment. This study genetic parameter estimates prediction 25 agronomic quality traits in 49 white yam clones. It employed best linear unbiased (BLUP) mixed model analysis using genomic relationship matrix derived from 6337 Diversity Array Technology (DArT) molecular markers, multivariate technique principal component canonical discriminant with BLUP values select key breeding. Findings revealed additive genetic, non-additive non-genetic factors contributed substantially phenotypic variation studied traits. The effects accounted higher than total majority except mosaic virus (YMV), tuber number per plant, ash content, flour yield, peel loss, protein content. narrow sense heritability was generally low (<0.30) all anthracnose (0.31), content (0.30) loss (0.89). Trait selection identified 15 fresh dry matter (DMC), YMV, root-knot Scutellonema bradys nematode susceptibility as most important variety testing. paper presents importance complementing accounts among estimation, breeding trials accelerate gains.
